the purpose
The project seeks to preserve and showcase the heritage of Guernsey’s fishing industry, while also reflecting on the island’s evolving cultural identity. The documentary aims to provide a fresh cultural appreciation, expanding the arts’ inward perspective. Further, it will be used to promote the island in film festivals globally and develop a living-heritage appreciation for tourists.
Environmental Engagement: The project fosters a connection with local communities by exclusively filming on-island in the natural environments. Interviews, personal stories, and daily routines will create a comprehensive and immersive picture of island life’s simple beauties. Mostly shooting outdoors.
Cultural Exploration: The film will use local iconography, heritage, and traditions to introduce audiences to both the familiar and lesser-known aspects of island culture, strengthening its accessibility to audiences.
It is a perfect vehicle to naturally integrate images of Guernsey Waters/Sights - Ormers - Guernseys - Local Dairy - Puffins and anything one may stumble upon in everyday life.
Sustainability and Future: As the fishing industry faces rampant challenges, the project will highlight the importance of preserving the industry and its cultural roots. It aims to stimulate discussion around sustainable practices and the potential for future generations to better engage with the island’s traditions.

Emilia (Millie) Robinson, daughter of Bernard, or Bernie, Robinson.
A representation of a true Guern, Bernie, 1946, was born in Guernsey, lived here his entire life and has been fishing since he was 14 years old.
During this time he has travelled the world in his boat, manning and leading many commercial crews, yet always returning to the 3 mile wide island. Millie discovered her love for documentary as a Guernsey-born and raised local, who is now living on-island again with internationally developed strong skills and connections to create an emotionally invested and personally driven heritage documentary.
Her mission is to highlight the potential of Guernsey’s charm, while engaging her festival distribution and marketing expertise to reach international audiences, promoting a humble voice for self-determination.
